Dean Duffy makes a good point when he says that for the near term the best thing we can do is use less energy. I don’t think that the standard answers of turning off the lights upon leaving the room and to car pool will really work any more than they have for the last 20 years. Some neat examples of significant energy conservations are: Intel recently came out with an energy friendly chip, many cities have become more efficient through recentrification, and advances in wind technology that allow roof mounted wind turbines.
Dean Duffy also mentions some Green Ideas are already making MBA candidate business plans. What are your thoughts on green business over the next 5 years?
Hey Rob, I’m not sure what to expect in the next 5 years for green business…
What I see is that investing in these businesses has become more and more fashionable and that’s good for the future of planet earth.
In my opinion, the main reasons are:
1. Companies want to look good for their customers and investors (look at Wal-Mart and its shift to green products);
2. VCs are realizing that they can actually make money from Green Business (listen to the episode #7 with Bryant Tong);
3. People are starting to realize that if we don’t do anything our grandchildren may not have a planet to enjoy (and sometimes it’s necessary movies like the Inconvenient Truth to remind us of that);
