A group of MBA students went on a tour of the AT&T baseball park in San Francisco. After the tour Chuck Tucker, the director of sales for the Giants baseball team, talked about some of the marketing challenges he faces. For example, how to sell the less popular seats and how to keep the park full in the future after the Giant’s superstar, Barry Bonds, retires in 2008.
The Finance & Investing Club organized a tour to Prosper which is known as the eBay for loans. Even though the company only started 1 year ago, it has already a user base of more than 240,000 users and over $57 million in loans! We had the chance to hear from Shira Levine, Prosper’s community marketing director, who talked about the company’s business model and explained how the process works. And in the end, we were fortunate to have Prosper’s CEO and Co-Founder Chris Larsen talk about the values behind the creation of Prosper and give his opinion about the differences between a Web 1.0 and a Web 2.0 company.
The USF Net Impact Chapter organized a tour to Genentech, a biotech research company which develops medicines for serious and life-threatening diseases which was named a couple of days ago as the #2 company to work for, by Fortune Magazine. You will hear from Chris Dempsey, a current USF MBA giving a quick overview of the company and answering to some questions from the audience. In the end you will listen to Roberto Piccioni from the Environment, Health, and Safety Department (EHS) talking about some of the sustainability efforts happening at Genentech.
